Hi there,
I'm having a problem with DNS on my home network. My setup is as
follows
Desktop
Incoming pipex adsl connection using modem - gets ip details
automaticall from ISP. This is set as shared.
Wireless network card
ip:192.168.8.2
subnet255.255.255.0
gateway: 192.168.8.2
DNS ip: 192.168.8.2
Laptop
Using wireless to connect to desktop PC using the following details:
ip:192.168.8.3
subnet255.255.255.0
gateway: 192.168.8.2
DNS ip: 192.168.8.2
I can connect the two machines together and see each machine across the
network. I can ping each machine from each one.
I am having a problem getting the internet to work properly on the
laptop. I am unable to ping www.bbc.co.uk from the laptop. When i
ping www.bbc.co.uk from the PC directly connected to the net i get an
IP address. I can then goto the latop and type this IP address into
the browser and get the BBC site.
I think this is down to a problem with the DNS setting on the wireless
card on the desktop. Can anyone help? What DNS address should i be
using for the DNS server on the desktop computer?
Thanks for the help, much appreciated.
.
