Right click on "My Network Places" and choose properties
Right click on the network connection you want to show and choose properties
At the bottom of the property page, you will find a checkbox called "Show
icon in taskbar when connected", ensure this is checked
Close all property pages by clicking the OK button, and your icon should
appear

16-Sep-06 / No Network traffic monitor icon
How can I get the Network traffic monitor icon back in system tray?
After the HD went south, repartitioned/reformated re-installed Win XP Pro
and tried restore some of my old settings. Things back to reasonable statenow
except I found RAM went bad too - down from 224 to 97 MB. Win XP and 3multi-
memory testers report RAM "OK" but left only 95 - 97 MB. Buy new when can.
All works OK - except a bit slow and hanging some time in email or when
tasking or too many windows open. Response to left or right mouse-clicks,notification
usually
slow. Do have a lot of files in 2 of 3 partitions (only 40 GB HD, tho').
It's not the classic case of icons disappearing from sys tray /
area. It's just this one. Sometimes it's there, sometimes not. Where doesit
come from, anyway? What has to be set up to show it for sure? It's not in(8-port)
right-
click taskbar\properties\Hide...\Customize either.
I used the network wizard couple, 3 times already. There's a small
hubline.
downstairs I connect to. That goes to a small 1 or 2-port router to the
Internet & Network access OK, as before.icon.
Anyone have this problem before? I feel blind w/o that flashing monitors
Is there an alternative way to monitor, w/ min resources?and
Appreciate any advice.

Hi there!
Last night I installed the most recently downloaded Windows XP updates
Networksince then, every time I connect to the internet the flashing 'dial-up
connection status' icon is missing from my taskbar... If I go to my
toconnections, it says 'disconnected', even though I am clearly connected
thethe internet (emails download and I can surf the web). If I chose to
'refresh' the Network connections folder the icon suddenly appears and
andstatus changes to 'connected'.
Does anyone know why this happened and how to fix it? I have checked
whenthe box inside network properties saying 'show icon in notification area
Iconnected' IS ticked. As I say this started after running XP updates...
myuse broadband, but have several older dial-up connections still saved on
samecomputer and the same thing is happening with all of them. I also
reinstalled my broadband connection but the new installion is doing the
thing.
Any help/comments gratefully received!
