Configure the Windows 2000 network connection with the TCP/IP settings
that the XP computers use. For most home networks, that means "obtain
an IP address automatically", which is the default for both XP and
2000.

It isn't strictly necessary, but specifying the same workgroup name on
all of the computers makes network access a little easier.
Right-click My Computer, click Properties, and click Properties >
Computer Name > Change.
