Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance
Open a command prompt and type the following command:
net use * /d
Then press Enter and close the command window. Then try to change the

I inherited a new laptop from a former employee at our company and haven't
been able to change the computer name. We have a domain and are running
Windows 2000 on the server, XP on my new laptop. When I try to change the
computer name to what I used on my former laptop, I get the message: "The
following error occurred when trying to rename the computer to "tricia":
Multiple connections to a server or shared resource by the same user,
using
more than one user name, are not allowed. Disconnect all previous
connections
to the server or shared resource and try again." Any suggestions would be
very helpful.
