Morning Steve,
after giving up on it for a week, here i am again, sorry steve,
re: Host: don't assign any TCP/IP properties manually! If you have,
un-share and re-share the Internet connection.
done
That will automatically assign these values to the LAC that connects to thedone, this is the lac that connects the computer's not the properties of
client:
IP Address: 192.168.0.1
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: none
DNS Server: none
lac4 which is the modem. Also in Advanced>WINS properties should i enable
"enable netbios over tcp/ip"?Its on default. Also I have the following in the
lac properties: File and printer sharing for MS Networks and internet
protocol(tcp/ip) ticked.
Client: If you assign TCP/IP properties manually, make all of these
settings:
IP Address: 192.168.0.2
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1
DNS Server: 192.168.0.1 or your ISP's DNS server
done except dns, as my isp is configured to use DHCP (Dynamic Host
Configuration
Protocol) so i do not need to set a specific DNS address - only set my
computer to automatically obtain the DNS settings.
"Please note that your internet connection will not function correctly if
you do not do this." I was told.
After doing the above changes to the client, the network icon changes and
says something like connecting or binding etc.
But nothing.
No request is even sent when i look at the two little screens.
Could it be anything basic?I'll try using the cable on diff. machine.
Thanks.

I havent uodated host with sp2 yet, but disabled LAC and couldn't enable it.
err msg:enabling connection, connection failed!
its LAC properties. This is happening on the client, right? Reboot the client and check
Yes, the client. Rebooted properties are at end of message.
In this reply if you meant the properties of the LAC on Host then they are
different to what you have mentioned.
My ip address starts with 58.107.xxx.xxx
subnet mask 255.255.255.0
default gateway similar to i.p..
That looks like the properties for the Internet connection, which (if
I understand correctly) is LAC4 (Cable-Modem). Check the properties
of LAC (NIC). They should be as I showed above.
Ok LAC (NIC) on host didnt have gateway and dns , so i put the ones you
mentioned. But then i lost connection with those settings, so i removed
gateway and dns..
Now they are:
Address type: Manually Configured
IP Address: 192.168.0.2
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway:
DNS Server:
And properties of Client, which is LAC5 now, which i couldn't enable
yesterday, are:
ip:192.168.0.1xx
subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
default gateway: 192.168.0.1
What a waste of time isn't it?
Thanks again Steve.
Regards,
M.
I'm sorry, but I'm getting confused about which properties are on the
client and which are on the host So let me give them again.
Host: don't assign any TCP/IP properties manually! If you have,
un-share and re-share the Internet connection. That will
automatically assign these values to the LAC that connects to the
client:
IP Address: 192.168.0.1
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: none
DNS Server: none
Client: If you assign TCP/IP properties manually, make all of these
settings:
IP Address: 192.168.0.2
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1
DNS Server: 192.168.0.1 or your ISP's DNS server
