Re: Assigning Static IP Address Help

assuming the router IP is 192.168.0.1, you may assign 192.168.0.2, mask 255.255.255.0 and default gateway 192.168.0.1 and DNS 192.168.0.1.

Hi,

I am using a D-link DSL-G604T router and it is unable to assign static ip
address to specific mac addresses. At least i do not think it has that
function. I tried assigning static ip address for my computer through network
connections> LAN connection>TCP/IP

What values should i put for the subnet mask, DNS and gateway? I tried
pointing it to my router, i could conenct to the router but not to the
internet. My computer may be connected to more than 1 network sometimes.

So if i assign a static ip address, would this affect me logging into
another network? I read that i could set an alternate configuration for
static ip address, but what if i am connecting to a network which i know
nothing about. For example, i connect to my own home network and school
network as well.

I am also sure that the ip i am assigning is outside the range of DHCP. I
would like to assign static ip address is because my network places is unable
to update the computers on my workgroup.

And not allowing me to access another computer's files. But when i entered
the ip address of that computer, i can access it right away. However, the ip
address may change and so i am considering setting up static ip address.

Suggestions anyone? Thanks
