home networking problem using Wizard

Hi all,
I am trying to create my first home network and having problems. I
have installed a wireless router and am able to access the internet
with both the desktop (directly connected via cable) and a wireles
laptop. The wireless router is connected to a modem and a printer is
connected to the desktop. I am able to ping the desktop from the
laptop and vice versa. However, after running the wizards, only the
laptop appears in the workgroup list. I can access files on the laptop
from the desktop, but I can't access the files on the desktop from the
laptop. I get the message that I don't have administrator privileges.
The wizard seems to be creating the desktop as the server, but this is
not what I want. I am choosing the recommended route of using the
existing shared network to access the internet, however I have tried
using the residential gateway route also. This seems to be where the
problem is, but I can't seem to rectify the problem.
Thanks
Wade
