Ok i can only isolate it to the mac address of the ethernet card. Could
windows be blocking that somehow?

If i turn the wifi on on the laptop is works fine and both machine can see
each other, so this excludes anything that has to do with hostnames, ip
address and firewall settings.

Does anyone have anymore ideas for me please.... I am stumped

I have checked all the settings, nothing is being blocked.

I have turned off the firewall.

Thanks for the ideas so far. I will continue to tinker with it today.

if you have more ideas I would greatly appreciate them.

Thanks

The system error 53 is connection or firewall issue. Do you have other security software running on these computers?
