I have a problem with an XP machine and a Win2K machine on a LAN .see
They can ping each other by IP address OK and they can each access the
internet OK.
XP can ping Win2K by computer name, but Win2K can not ping XP by name.
They can open each other's shares if opened by IP address : "RUN"
\\192.168.0.100\myshare
XP can open Win2K's shares by name : "RUN" \\Win2KName\myshare but Win2K
can not open XP this way (The network path was not found)
XP can not see Win2K in my network places
Win2K can see XP's workgroup, but can not open it (Workgroup is not
accessible - The network path was not found)
DHCP node type is mixed on both machines
I have run out of ideas, can anyone suggest how to get these machines to
each other?
Many thanks for any help
Brian
Thanks for your replies. I have dug a litle deeper..
The XP machine had NetBios over TCP/IP set to default. I have set it to
enabled but it has not made any difference.
Browstat reveals that each computer thinks that it is the default browser. I
think this is significant! But what to do next?
Many thanks again for your help
Brian,
If both computers see themselves as the master browser, this is indeed
significant. They are on the same workgroup? Or not? The best solution, if
it's just 2 computers on the LAN, is to Stop and Disable the browser service on
either one. Then reboot both.
