Hi,
It sounds like there could be a corrupt driver issue, try to uninstall it
from device manager, then reboot & let it re-install to see if it resolves
the dns problem
Also the fact that it says unknown, instead of Broadcast, seems like it
isn't going through the regular network channels..
Are you able to release & renew your IP?

After I type in "ipconfig/flushdns" I get:.
Successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache
then I fire up IE and it tries to go to 64.233.179.99 google.com for a while
and then I get another dns error.
anything else?

Hi,
Have you tried flushing the DNS resolver cache?

Hi all,
I have an XP Home machine that gives me a dns
error whenever I try to use IE6. I have tried two
different ways to connect to the Internet: one
through my local lan and two through a dialup
connection. Both give the same errors. I have
other machines on my lan that access the Internet
just fine. The only difference in IPCONFIG/ALL
is that the node type is UNKNOWN instead of
BROADCAST, compared to a Win2000Pro
machine that works correctly. I can't even ping
the local router 192.168.0.1 gives request
timed out. I know the cable is good since it
works in other machines. (driver problem?)
The automatic dhcp is set
correctly and when connected to my lan the ip
address is setting correctly but when I try to
ping yahoo.com for instance, I get a request
timed out error. This happens with either the
dialup connection of the lan connection. I think
that the dhcp client is corrupted but I don't
know how to replace it. Any ideas? Oh, it is
SP1.
thanks,
charles.....
