Re: No IPCONFIG

If "They are all on a hub", then you are not using a 1394 connection. Try
repairing your Local Area Connection. If you don't have one, then this may
well be a driver issue.

Additionally to the previous message, when I try the repair function on
the
1394 network connection (there are two showing) I get the following error
message "Failed to query TCP/IP settings of the connection and cannot
procede. I have followed the steps to have the Netbios enabled over TCP/IP
but have not touched any other setting

Thanks for the tip Doug but I did another complete install of XP over
night and the path is complete as you suggested.
When I type ipconfig/all I get a single line stating "ipconfig" but
nothing else. This is the same in the network connections etc where
there
is no connection status information such as: Address type; IP address;
subnet mask etc. All these fields are blank.
The Network driver under Device Manager says it is working ok - is it
necessary for me to use my old driver CD that came with the computer 2
years ago to try and install drivers that are probably not as new as on
the the XP sp2 CD versions?
Also I do not have any other software onthe computer ie sound ,video etc
installed

Try:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\ipconfig /all

If this works, right click My Computer and select Properties. Click
the
Advanced tab - Environmental Variables button. Scroll down to PATH,
highlight it, and select edit. Add ;%SystemRoot%\System32.

I just re-installed Win XP SP2 onto my #3 computer.Which had worked
fine
on
my small network/workgroup
pc is an AMD 64 3200+ and net drivers are all ok in Device Manager

I cannot get it to connect to my existing nework of 2 other Win XP
computers. They are all on a hub and #1 and #2 talk to each other and
to
the
internet. #3 will do neither
I read the good stuff on PChucks wewbsite but my first hurdle is that
I
can't get ipconfig to come up under the cmd command.
I assume that something was missed during the Windows install but I
can't
seem to find a method of adding anything.
I have TCP/IP and the other settings as described with netBIOS over
TCPip
enabled but still do not get the ipconfig as the error message says
something such as "wrong path cannot find "
I could not get the Browser utility to do anything.

Any help would be appreciated
