My "New" tab won't work when click on either 'Question' or
'General comment' at this newsgroup. I came here via the
Windows Help link, from my DeskTop Help. There's a new window
that opens on the first click but there's no message window.
Consequently I have no choice but to jump into one or more of
the existing threads here (via 'Reply') and hope that one of
their members will see my post.

Two related problems:
1. Is there some simple way (Explorer, Registry entry, batchfile,
macro, etc.) which could be used to alert users on a small network
whenever a computer has been turned on and is now on the net?
Is there maybe an event log or similar created at the just turned-
on computer, for example, that could be auto-sent to DeskTop of 1
or more of the computers already online?
2. I tried to monitor the above type event by keeping a small
Explorer MS Home window open to see when a new comp comes on line.
Unfortunately there are at least 2 problems with this expedient
(at least, at this computer):
(a) The list in the window apparently does not update automa-
tically, regardless of whether or not the window is 'active'-
as when click on Title bar. Consequently I have to refresh it
manually whenever I think a computer may have come on line.
My memory's not to hot anymore but I thought that some time
back I DID see it auto-update.
(b) This morning I briefly turned on Comp #1 downstairs. Then I
shut it off and went upstairs to turn on Comp #2. When I opened
the Explorer MS Home window, I saw BOTH computers in the listing.
Clicking on #1 of course produced an error message - because it
was off. However, #1 remained in the listing, even after refresh.
I don't see how this could possibly be "normal". Could it maybe
be due to 'slow response', some memory problem, to many files on
the system and some limit in some Registry setting?
The reason I speculate on 'slow response' is that after I
finished typing this post here offline in Notepad and closed it,
the MS Home window instantly updated and now there is only this
one computer in the listing.
Any help on 1 and/or clues on 2?
