Thanks Chuck!... I made sure that all services and components needed are OK
on Computer A (good one) and Computer B (bad one)? I can?t make NetBT run on
computer B, going via Windows the Enable NetBios over TCP-IP checkbox is
?checked? but going through the command windows it is disabled ("ipconfig
/all")? I downloaded the PSTools and here?s the cpsserv.txt for each computer?

Computer A (good one LEVC)
Start CPSServ V1.02 - LEVC

Find Computer Browser ("browser")

Find WF / ICS ("sharedaccess")

Find Workstation ("workstation")

Computer B (bad one AJVC)

I?ll look for your answer, thanks again!

Please don't top post, especially when you have a signature with delimiter line.

So Levc is not running "server", "sharedaccess", OR "workstation"? And you say
Levc is the GOOD computer?

http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/05/troubleshooting-network-neighborhood.html#Components

Most computers in a workgroup will be running as both a client and as a server.
All computers using Windows Networking should have:
* "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)", in the network items list in Local Area
Connection - Properties.
* "NetBIOS Over TCP/IP" Enabled, in TCP/IP Properties - Advanced - WINS.
* "TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper" service running - Started and Automatic.
* "Windows Firewall / Internet Connection Sharing (ICS)" service (for SP2
systems), or "Internet Connection Firewall / Internet Connection Sharing (ICS)"
service (for pre-SP2 systems) running - Started and Automatic.

Any computer accessing shared data runs as a client. All clients using Windows
Networking should have:
* "Client for Microsoft Networks", in the network items list in Local Area
Connection - Properties.
* "Workstation" service running - Started and Automatic.

Any computer providing shared data runs as a server. All servers using Windows
Networking should have:
* "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks", in the network items
list in Local Area Connection - Properties.
* "Server" service running - Started and Automatic.

So let's start by figuring out why Levc isn't running "server", "sharedaccess",
OR "workstation". Once you're experienced with that, then do the same for Ajvc.
Oh yes, you do have connectivity between each computer and the other?

Chuck?

Thanks for the advice on bottom posting? Now, regarding the third computer,
it?s a laptop I use at the office, sorry I left it there but let?s make this
two desktops work first OK?

Working with LEVC, I checked the services running using CONTROL PANEL ?
ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS ? SERVICES and all services are running, Browser, Shared
Access, Workstation and Server. I double checked the services running with SC
CONFIG and Browser and Sharedaccess are RUNNING. Ran NET CONFIG SERVER and
WORKSTATION and here are the results?

NET CONFIG SERVER

But the CPSServ shows no activity at SERVER or WORKSTATION as shown in the
following CPSSERV.TXT?
Start CPSServ V1.02 - LEVC

End CPSServ V1.02 ? LEVC

Well, until we start seeing one other computer show up in the CPSServ log for
any computer, we can wait for the third. No sweat.

But we have to figure out the server and workstation bit. We can see
"sharedaccess" above. So here's what you said.
# I checked the services running using CONTROL PANEL ? ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS ?

Server.
# I double checked the services running with SC CONFIG and Browser and
Sharedaccess are RUNNING.

What's wrong with the picture here? What did SC show for Workstation and
Server? That's a major discrepancy.

Is the 2Wire running in Bridge mode, or Router mode (NAT off or on?)? What's
with the IP addresses (199.20.1.41 and 199.20.1.42)? Those are NOT private
addresses!

Are you paying for ONE public address, or TWO?

Chuck:

At LEVC I go to CONTROL PANEL - ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS - SERVICES and checked
the status of the following services...
BROWSER
WORKSTATION
SHAREDACCESS (ICS/FIREWALL)
SERVER
NetBios OVER TCP-IP Help
All of them showed RUNNING, AUTOMATIC

SC QUERY BROWSER shows

STATE : 4 RUNNING
(NOT_STOPPABLE,NOT_PAUSABLE,IGNORES_SHUTDOWN)
WIN32_EXIT_CODE : 0x0 (0x0)
SERVICE_EXIT_CODE : 0x0 (0x0)

WIN32_EXIT_CODE : 0x0 (0x0)
SERVICE_EXIT_CODE : 0x0 (0x0)

and, as I wrote before...

Chuck:

Sorry, they are not public addresses they are Private DHCP Network
addresses, I took the following info from 2wire home portal?

Gateway: 172.16.0.1
Network IP: 172.16.0.0
Subset Mask: 255.255.0.0
DHCP Interval: 172.16.1.33 ? 172.16.1.250
Assigned: 3
Left: 215
DHCP Waiting Time: 60 min

I don?t know what is the ?real? address it uses to go out to the Internet,
but those are the addresses the 2wire unit assigns to each computer?

CONTROL PANEL ? ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS ? SERVICES show server and workstation
services RUNNING, AUTOMATIC but when running SC QUERY SERVER or WORKSTATION,
it shows the following error message?

[SC] EnumQueryServicesStatus:OpenService FAILED 1060:
El servicio especificado no existe como servicio instalado.
(Translated should be something like: ?The specified service does not exist
as installed service?)

I tried SC START SERVER and SC START WORKSTATION and the error message that
came is the same ?The specified service does not exist as installed service??

Believe me, I?ve tried the Network Wizard (not once but various times) using
the Residential Gateway Option?

How is it that the Services at the Administrative Tools shows a service
running and automatic but the SC at the command window shows the service is
not even installed?

Thanks again for your patience...

Well, this is why I do this. For the learning experience.

I'll sleep on this, start up again sometime tomorrow. You do the same.
