OK Chuck?

By antivirus firewall I meant my PC-Cillin Antivirus program has embedded
Firewall, I just made sure this function was disabled.

Now, MORE TROUBLE?

Computer B is the one with problems and it seems they are getting worse?

I detected that the browser service was not started so I started it manually
using CONTOL PANEL ? ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS ? SERVICES.

I saw, using IPCONFIG /ALL, that my NetBios over TCP-IP was disabled? I did
-OPEN NETWORK CONNECTIONS (I have only ONE network connection and the name
appeared when ipconfig /all) then went to PROPERTIES ? TCP-IP ? PROPERTIES ?
ADVANCED ? WINS on Default and I changed it to Enable NetBios over TCP-IP?

Reboot the computer?

I immediately went to the command window and typed SC QUERY BROWSER and
showed?

SERVICE_NAME: browser
TYPE : 20 WIN32_SHARE_PROCESS
STATE : 4 RUNNING
(STOPPABLE,NOT_PAUSABLE,IGNORES_SHUTDOWN)
WIN32_EXIT_CODE : 0 (0x0)
SERVICE_EXIT_CODE : 0 (0x0)
CHECKPOINT : 0x0
WAIT_HINT : 0x0

After that I typed BROWSTAT STATUS?. And nothing, I tried directing the
output to a TXT file but the file came empty?

After that I typed IPCONFIG /ALL and it showed? (sorry my Windows XP is in
Spanish)

As you can see the NetBios is DISABLED but going to the NETWORK CONNECTIONS
and opening the TCP-IP properties it shows that NetBios over TCP-IP is
ENABLED (?????) and, as I told you I have only one Network Connection?

Then I returned to the command window and tried NET CONFIG SERVER, showing?

Nombre de servidor \\AVM3
Comentario del servidor Desktop Tonito

Versi¢n del programa Windows 2002
Servidor activo en

Servidor oculto No
N§ m ximo de sesiones abiertas 10
N§ m ximo de archivos abiertos por sesi¢n 16384

Tiempo de inactividad de sesi¢n (min.) 15
Se ha completado el comando correctamente.

You can see that it doesn?t show the NetbiosSmb and NetBT_Tcpip_ lines?

There?s something wrong in the NetBios OVER TCP-IP service, windows shows
that it is ENABLED but checking with IPCONFIG at the command window it shows
DISABLED? How could that happen? What am I missing?

I tried the SC QUERY BROWSER and, more trouble?

SERVICE_NAME: browser
TYPE : 20 WIN32_SHARE_PROCESS
STATE : 1 STOPPED
(NOT_STOPPABLE,NOT_PAUSABLE,IGNORES_SHUTDOWN)
WIN32_EXIT_CODE : 1460 (0x5b4)
SERVICE_EXIT_CODE : 1460 (0x5b4)
CHECKPOINT : 0x0
WAIT_HINT : 0x0

Now the browser service was somehow STOPPED?

Any recommendations?

Thanks again Chuck!

OK, no sweat. Stay cool now, we just have a bit more work to do.

Make sure that all of the necessary components and services are running on all 3
computers.

And make sure that the browser service is running on 2 computers only - let's
get it running on the 2 desktop computers (Ethernet), and disable it on the
laptop (WiFi).

If you can't get NetBT running on each computer, then let's do some more
analysis. You need to download PSTools (free) from SysInternals, and run
CPSServ, and post the results, from each computer.
