I hardwired using ip 192.168.1.125 my router will assign dynamic addrs
starting with 192.168.1.100 I also configured the router to specifcally
assign (allow) 192.168.1.125

Now I can ping the router from the DOS prompt @ 192.168.1.1 but I can't get
IE to connect to any sites. When I try to open my router consol, IE can't
open but tries to append .com, .net, .org to the ip address. So, I guess
that I'm hitting some default search engine.

I found out the under SERVICES, my DHCP client won't start. When I try to
start it I receive the message COULD NOT FIND THE PATH SPECIFIED. When I get
home tonight, I going to check the PATH in it's PROPERTIES window. My
workstation here @ work uses C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe -k netsvcs I'll
try that.

Do you have neighbours? Do you have any idea what WiFi your neighbours are
using? Have you done a WiFi site survey using NetStumbler?

Can you view the access log for the router? Anything interesting there?

I'm able to connect, without any problems, to my router from other computer
on the network and am able to use the internet & email.

This dell, can make a connection to the router, I can see it under network
connections. but I can not establish an IP address. I open a dos promt and
try to ping the router but get no answer from the ping.

I can also, take the wireless adapter & successufully connect on any other
pc/laptop that I have.

I believe the error is comming from the Dell but I don't know where the
aquiring network address message is coming from or what register settings or
.dll controls the IP address assingments.

Any more advise on this would be greatly appreicated.

Can other computers ping the router, successfully?

Does this computer have Ethernet? Can you use Ethernet?

Anything in Event Viewer?

Have you looked at LSP / Winsock corruption?

I tried the ethernet connection and I get the same error. All other
computers on my network both wireless & hard wired can ping the router, get
out on the net, share files, & email......

The other reply I received suggested to hard wire the ip addr. That's fine
if I knew how to do it....

I'll check out the links that you sent to me.. any other suggestions???

Lew,

Hard wiring the IP address is done with the TCP/IP Properties wizard, where you
change the setting from "Obtain ... automatically" to "Use the following...".
This will be a useful strategy if the problem is that the DHCP server just isn't
issuing addresses.

Your first post says "everything hardware wise looks okay". Now you say "same
error".

How about you describe all of the computers more thoroughly? Which computer has
a problem, and why do you also say "everything hardware wise looks okay"?
