Mystery with Network Places and lmhosts

Hello everyone,

Looking for a brain child that can help me solve this mystery.

I just started a new job and I am on a large netware network. I have 3
servers that I need to maintain and the only way I can access using
Windows Explorer is \\<ipaddress>

I found out that I can use the lmhosts file to create a lookup for the
ipaddresses and that is as follows

x.x.x.2 myserver1 #PRE
x.x.x.3 myserver2 #PRE
x.x.x.4 myserver3 #PRE

I reloaded and now, using Internet explorer I can browse using http://
to myserver1 and at dos I can ping myserver1 but when I attempt to use
\\myserver1 to connect from windows explorer nothing happens.

How can I configure my computer LOCALLY to use the \\myserver to
connect to the server instead of using the \\x.x.x.2 ip address? We
all know this can be done, but who has the skills to tell us how?

.
