are up to date. Is it normal to connect to the Internet at only 10 mbps?

The Internet Gateway is your broadband router. The speed reported for
your LAN connection is the maximum rated speed of its connection to
the router. I'd expect that to be100 mbps for any recent network card
and router. These tips might let you increase the speed:

1. Look at the network adapter properties in Device Manager. If it's
explicitly configured for 10 mbps, try changing it to 100 mbps or to
automatic. I've written a web page with details:

http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/troubleshoot/networkcard.htm

2. Make sure that then network cable is properly wired and connected.

3. Connect to a different router port.

The fastest cable modem speeds that I've seen are just over 7 mbps, so
a 10 mbps connection is adequate for now.
