I want to be able to have a LAN and a stable internet connection on
both laptops running XP and 2K. Any suggestions are welcome.
As I understand it, (from the manual at
http://jclaudej77.free.fr/7404fr.pdf), the SMC7404BRA EU router is a
combination ADSL modem/router that uses an RJ11 connection to a phone
line for Internet access. But my French isn't perfect, and I could be
wrong.
Yet you say that you "plug in the ethernet LAN cable". What type of
cable is that, and what is connected to the other end of it? I don't
think that the router can share an Internet connection that uses
Ethernet.
There should never be two devices with the same MAC address on a LAN.
Doing that will cause unpredictable results.
