Neil,
One of the most common causes of this problem would be a misconfigured or
overlooked personal firewall, or other security component. There are several
other possibilities too, and any might be the cause of your problem. Read this
article with an open mind.

For more direct help, provide "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all" from each
computer, so we can diagnose the problem. Read this article, and linked
articles, and follow instructions precisely (download browstat!):

Chuck
Thanks for the post. I ran the ipconfig /all as suggested. everything is
fine EXCEPT Netbios over TCPIP is disabled. I presume this is causing the
problem. How do I enable Netbios
Hi Neil,
NBT is Enabled in Local Area Connection - Properties - TCP/IP Properties -
Advanced - WINS.

http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/05/troubleshooting-network-neighborhood.html#Components
the tick box for enabled was already ticked. ipconfig /all still shows it as
disabled???
Neil,
Post "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all" for both computers, here, and we'll
start diagnosing the problem. The NBT setting may not be the only problem.
And Neil, please type your answers after mine.
