Ok Chuck - I've done some more research. I viewed the Event Viewer and
here
was an error around the time my disconnect happened.

Event Type: Error
Event Source: MRxSmb
Event Category: None
Event ID: 8003
Date: 2/18/2006
Time: 4:59:06 PM
User: N/A
Computer: TSUNAMI
Description:
The master browser has received a server announcement from the computer
LAPTOP that believes that it is the master browser for the domain on
transport NetBT_Tcpip_{4D2BAEB0-FE06-44FD-95. The master browser is
stopping
or an election is being forced.

I clicked on the help and support center link in the error but it told
me
that there wasn't any additional information about this issue. I've
never
heard of this before.

An 8003 is normal, if it doesn't happen in large numbers.A master
browser
election is a necessary part of Windows Networking. I can't think of
how
it, or
anything that it would be a symptom of, would cause a disconnection.

OTOH, if you were recovering from a disconnection which involved loss of
connectivity with the other computer, whichever of your computer that
was
NOT
the mb before the disconnection might have become a mb after the
disconnection.

So that would be a normal symptom of reconnection.

Let's take a look at "ipconfig /all" for both computer please. And
please
post
inline text.

Both computers are on the same subnet, and have compatible settings. See

Is there a third computer involved? ("There are 3 servers in domain")?
How
about we look at browstat and ipconfig for all 3 (with all 6 tests run at
the
same time!)?

Also, do you move Laptop around, or disconnect it occasionally? If Laptop
is
the master browser, and it's not online all of the time, you could have
problems.

Paranoia is not a problem, when it's a normal response from experience.
My email is AT DOT
actual address pchuck mvps org.

Yes there are 3 computers but I hardly use the 3rd one. The laptop is
always connected. The only time I would disconnect it is if I'm traveling
which is very seldom. Just another tidbit of info: I noticed when it
happened last night that it happened right after I signed off of AOL and I
think this happened once before also - so I'm not sure if that could playing
a part in it as well. Here is the info you requested for all 3 machines.
Thanks for all your help.
