Re: NAT on windows XP without 192.168 internal range

If you try and use any other IP for the gateway address (other than
192.168.0.1) it will revert to this address or will not work. Best option is
buy a router. They are quite cheap these days and work better that ICS.

Hello all tech gurus here,

I'd like to use one XP professional machine as a NAT. When I set up
windows
internet sharing, adapter connected to the internal net is ever set to
192.168.0.1, but I'd like to use another IP from another range. I have two
lan adapters. What should I set up to make it work? Is there a way to do
it
on command line? (i mean something like ipchains on linux) Tried google,
but have not found anything helpful.

Thank you in advance,
Y.

I'm sorry, but Windows XP's Internet Connection Sharing doesn't
support the use of any address other than 192.168.0.1.

You can enable ICS and then manually change the IP address of the LAN
connection. However, if you do:

1. It will disable the built-in DHCP server, requiring manual setup of
all of the clients.

2. ICS and other network functions might not work correctly.

If you want to try it, at your own risk, create a System Restore point
first, so that you can recover from any problems that this
non-supported change might cause.
