Richard,
I gotta tell ya, I really appreciate all of your help. You've been very
helpful in getting me to explore our pc and learn more about it - course 1/2
of it I was guessing at.....but, nonetheless, I furthered my education &
confidence in knowing if I put my mind to it I can "fix" the problem - even
if I don't always understand what you're talking about ---- anyway, thanks
for helping and making the effort!
In the end I called our internet provider (comcast) and thru talking to them
discovered (thru stpes which they walked me thru,--the cmd prompt - renew &
release) it was a router problem (linksys) to which they gave me the #.
Called them and went thru quite a # of steps and solved the problem. My w/l
router, purchased in 5/05 needed an update. Which they walked me thru via
the phone & problem solved.
Very Happy! And in addition, thru this website which I thought might be
overwhelming & confusing, I did solve another separate problem which I've
been dealing w/for months. So I'm thrilled about that one too!
Thanks to all who were willing to offer their time & assistance!

DHCP is "Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol" - or in simple terms, a way of.
automatically obtaining IP addresses from a server, router or such. You
pretty much have two choices on this - either set up every PC to get an
address automatically or set up every PC with manually-configured settings
and make sure that none of them use the same IP address as any other device
on the network. When you have some computers automatically getting an
address and others with manually assigned addresses this is when you see
this error.

We have a w/l router. One pc. Laptop that OCCASSIONALLY connects - not
all
the time. And that's it. I don't know what my answer is in regards to
your
statement. The one's I've checked seem to either have an IP address or
are
set to automatically find one. Where am I getting lost? I don't know
what a
DHCP is. Or do I change the ones w/ a specific address and change them to
automatically oobtain one? Assuming I can do that......? (from what I can
see it doesn't give me that option on two of them) (One is a connection
to
my husband work so he can get on their system via ours.) Don't want to
screw
that up either.....AAgghh!!

How you fix it depends on how your network is set up. If you have a
router,
ICS host or other device that's assigning IP addresses by DHCP that will
be
easy to fix - just make sure that every computer on the network is set up
to
automatically obtain an IP address; if not, then make sure each computer
is
assigned a different IP address. You'll find this setting by opening the
Network Connections tool in Control Panel, right-clicking the active
network
connection and selecting Properties, then find the TCP/IP protocol in the
list of clients and protocols in use, select it, and click the Properties
button.

Alright - strike that last question -- figured out the com. prom.--
There is one that has the same address -- now I delete? How?

Open a command prompt, type IPCONFIG, and check the IP addresses of
all
computers connected to your network, either wired or wireless.
Make
sure
that none of them are also using the IP address assigned to your
router.

I didn't think it was necessarily a game issue - I guess it just
usually
occurs @ that time.
We have the one PC, w/ a wireless router which is sometimes used
by a
laptop. Other than that - no other pc's.
How do I find & fix the problem. (I'm a novice - and I've been
searching
thru comp. mngmt. etc., but I don't want to screw anything up).
If you could bare w/ me.....I'd be really grateful!
Thx-

This isn't a game issue, it's a local network issue. Another PC
on
your
local network has the same IP address. Find and fix that
problem.

When online to "toontown.com" and playing the game we keep
getting
an
alert...
"There is an IP address conflict with another system on the
network."
What's this exactly and how do I correct the problem?
