RE: Home network/workgroup no long working

I forgot to add I've tried this both with Windows firewall enabled and
disabled with no luck. I do not use any Norton firewall/securtiy software (it
has only caused problems in the past).

My home network has worked just fine for the past 7 months, until this past
Saturday morning when running troubleshooting steps from WindowsUpdate tech
support. (WindowsUpdate keeps returning an error message of 0x80072EFE and
will not function on Computer B.) This may or may not have caused the
problem. The step involved connecting the broadband modem directly to
computer B rather than using the wireless connection through router.

I have 2 computers on my home network.
Computer A: XP Pro SP2 and is connected via ethernet cable to the router.
Internet access works just fine.

Computer B: XP Pro SP2 and can be connected either via ethernet cable or
wireless. (The usual mode is wireless; although when connected via ethernet,
the wireless adapter is disabled.) Internet access is also available with no
problems through the router.

Up until Saturday, I had no problems accessing one computer from the other.
My workgroup worked just fine. Since then, neither computer is available to
the other.

Computer A can ping computer B, the router and sites outside of the home
network.
Computer B can ping computer A, the rouger and sites outside of the home
network.
Neither computer uses TCP/IPv6

Master name cannot be determined from GetAdapterStatus.

When trying to access Computer A from Computer B using the run command (&
vice versa) I get the following message: "The list of servers for this
workgroup is unavailable."

A number of other problems/error messages have shown up in the event viewer
such as EventID 8021 an 8032 and Master Browser issues. At one point I could
not even ping anything but localhost from each computer. I dealt with those
(rightly or wrongly) and the above information is where I am at now. Twice in
the past 48 hours the network has functioned correctly (once from each
computer), but only for a short period of time (less than 30 minutes), and
then access to the other computer would disappear. I even set up a new
workgroup when the old workgroup experienced these problems, and still get
the same "erors."

I am totally frustrated at this point and need to get some focus on what to
do. I've lost 2 days of work time from this--I work from home and both
computers are necessary as they provide different functions. I've tried to
provide as much starting info as I can think of from reading through other
posts. I've printed out considerable info from links provided in other posts,
but knowing where to start is another thing. I am no genius when it comes to
this, but am not afraid to try anything. Thanks in advance.
