We have here 7 PC's, all of whom were using W2k. We share folders and
printers under Windows (eg with Office), but also, in our accounting
programs, under DOS.

Somehow I managed to connect all the PC's on startup to the shared folders
and the shared printers, without any intervention of the users. When I type
"net use" in a command prompt, the answer is

status ........ local ....... external
OK ............H: ...........\\server\c_drive
OK ........... lpt1 ........ \\server\hp2100
OK .......... lpt2 ........ \\server\kyocera

Now, my secretary needed a new PC, and on that one, XP home was
preinstalled. Didn't like it, but when I tried to install W2k on it, the
bugger said to me to take a walk, since I was installing "old stuff" ...

Fair enough ... :-)

So, tried to connect the XP to the W2k "server". That wasn't a problem, and
after making a connection to the server's c-drive in explorer, and giving
the net use commands in the command prompt, also the XP computer was
connected to folders and printers, as well under windows as under DOS.

Unfortunately, when restarting this XP computer, all these connections were
"disabled", so my secretary could not connect to the server and it's
printers, neither under windows nor under DOS. We had to re-do the
connection to the c-drive in explorer, and re-give the net use commands to
be able to use the printers under DOS.

Imho, (but what do I know ...), all problems stem from the fact that when
connecting to the c-drive on the server, the XP computer has to always give
it's password again. As if this XP computer is "new" to the server every
morning ...

Is there a solution for this problem ?
(or, if not, how can I install W2K on this WXP computer, other than to put
in anohter HD ...?)

OK




You can not install Windows 2000 while within XP. You must remove/erase XP
and then install Windows 2000.
