If by 'network' printer, you mean a printer which has a built in ethernet
adapter, do this:

1. Determine the IP address of the printer - generally this appears on the
printer's test page.

2. On an XP machine use the Add Printer wizard, select Local NOT Network
printer. Clear the Automatically detect check box, and add a standard
TCP/IP port with the IP address from #1.
