15 seconds delay before DNS lookup

Hello,
I use a laptop from my company in LAN and I log into a company Windows Domain.

At home I log into the notebook with the same credentials that I use at
work, but whether I use a modem or an ADSL line to connect to the internet
(not to the company), each time my Internet Explorer, or Firefox, or Opera
browser tries to open a page, I must wait 15 seconds before the request is
actually sent to the out in the wild.

Using the Opera browser, the status bar status during this 15 seconds delay
states "looking up hostname..." so it seems that my laptop "needs" 15 seconds
to understand it is not in my company anymore, and that it can send to the
internet the DNS request. The 16th second, the DNS reqeust is sent and
navigation

Here is what I analyzed:
- DNS requests don't have delay from the command line (so why the Internet
browsers have delays?)
- no matter the hostnames of the sites I visited are put into the hosts file
or not, the internet browsers continue to look for their name somewhere and
wait 15 seconds before doing the right DNS request to the internet (how can
an application ignore system settings?!)
- I created an administrator LOCAL account (out of the company domani), but
the DNS delay is there
- I have manually put the primary and secondary DNS adddresses of my ISP
into the properties of the network adapter's TCP/IP Protocol stack, but the
dealy is there (anyway, as the delay is there even with the modem connection
on a different ISP, it doesn't seem that the delay is caused by the DNS
service of the ISP)

Here is what I wished:
- I wish I could configure Windows so that it completely ignored the company
settings. Somehow, somewhere, there is a setting that tell the OS to look for
internet names "locally" and it takes 15 seconds to... him, to start behaving
as a standalone pc, sending all the requests to the internet.

Thank you,
hopeless
