I just re-read the whole thread. In my first response I meant to
specifically say the gateway puter must have an ip set to 192.168.0.1. No
other will work. The second computer has any ip in the range 192.168.0.2
upwards. It looked like I wrote you could have the gateway ip as a range of
addresses but it must be fixed as said. Have you used any registry network
hacks, if so try going back to default settings. I have found that they
generally don't help and can make things worse. Obviously some might be
needed just make sure you keep copies of any keys you alter that way you can
always undo the changes weeks later if needed. One thing I do sometimes Is
make an image of the computer. Reformat and reinstall then setup the
network. I have the event id 8032 network browse error and haven't been able
to find the fault. I didn't know if the error was something I had done but
after reinstalling on both computers I have now established it is a Windows
fault. I'm still trying to track it down but I know a lot about what it
isn't. Getting back to your problem when you say you coudnt get out onto
the internet do you mean you gateway computer couldnt get onto the net?
Either way ics shouldn't stop it getting online. If you can only see the
other computers shares its probably the firewall. I would uninstall all
firewalls and only have the Windows built in firewall enabled on the
gateway. Uninstall third party firewalls because disabling them leaves some
componants running and can still block networks. Remember the built in
firewall stealths the computer just as well as any third party firewall. It
just doesn't have outbound protection but you can do without that while
troubleshooting. Also do you have Norton Antivirus 2005 or later as that has
worm protection which acts like a firewall so turn it off when you are
testing. I don't know about other AVs so check out what you are using.
