It sounds like your Network card drivers were not installed when you installed Windows.
I'd suggest reading the information at the following articles
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310592
Description of the Subkeys Contained in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Enum Registry Key
This article is about Windows 9x, but it does list some useful resources to find out what you have found from information in the other article.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/298837
How to use Registry Editor to identify an unknown PCI device
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/253232
How to get the configuration and location information of a PCI device
Please note the Enum key is located in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet*\Enum (where * = some number as you may have more then one control set.)

Hello - I just installed a new harddrive on my Dell desktop (old harddrive was destroyed by a virus) and then went on to install XP Pro on it. Everything went fine except that now I cannot see the "LAN connection" icon in my network connections window. I went to the Network Setup Wizard it told me that it couldnt find my network hardware. Could it be that something went awry during the switching of the harddrives? Or am I missing some software drivers etc?
Any tips would be much appreciated.
Thank you.
