Windows XP Prof can't see server

I have a new computer running XP Prof and my old computer running 2000 Prof
side by side. Both are joined to the domain, and I'm in the local admin
group on both computers. I'm trying to copy files from one computer to
another by copying them up to a server running Windows 2000 Server, and then
back down.
On my Windows 2000 machine I can see a share that I created and copy files
to it. On my new W XP macine I cannot see the share unless I sign on as
domain admin; and then I can't access the files that I pull down when I sign
back on as myself.
Questions:
What is different about accessing a share on a server with Windows XP; my
same user account works on my Windows 2000 computer?
How can I sign on as domain admin; highlight a group of folders on my new
computer; and give my other id (a local admin) all permissions to them? I
would rather that my user account take over ownership of them.
Thank you in advance,
Joe in Florida
