Hello,
Thanks for posting!
>From your post I understand that you are receiving the following message
when you install multiple brands of cards in Windows XP.
"The string universal unique identifier (UUID) is invalid." If I have
misunderstood your concerns, please feel free to let me know.
Based on my research I suggest you perform the following steps.
Suggestion 1: Update the system BIOS to the latest version.
Suggestion 2: The issue may be caused by a corrupt winsock or TCP/IP
protocol stack on the Windows XP SP2. You may refer to the following
information:
Method 1: Repair Winsock
============
Type "netsh winsock reset" in the command prompt and then press ENTER.
Note: Restart the computer after you run this command.
Warning: Programs that access or monitor the Internet such as antivirus,
firewall or proxy clients may be negatively affected when you run the netsh
winsock reset command. If you have a program that no longer functions
correctly after you run this command, reinstall the program to restore
functionality.
If the above steps do not resolve the problem follow the steps in the next
section.
Method 2: Delete corrupted registry keys and reinstall TCP/IP protocol.
=============
Step 1: Delete the corrupted registry keys
---------------------
Warning: Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry
incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These
problems might require that you reinstall your operating system. Microsoft
cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at
your own risk.
1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
3. In Registry Editor, locate the following keys, right-click each key, and
then click Delete:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Winsock
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Winsock2
4. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
Note: Restart the computer after you delete the Winsock keys. Doing so
causes the Windows XP operating system to create new shell entries for
those two keys. If you do not restart the computer after you delete the
Winsock keys the next step will not work properly.
Step 2: Reinstall the TCP/IP protocol
-------------------------------
1. Right-click the network connection, and then click Properties.
2. Click Install.
3. Click Protocol, and then click Add.
4. Click Have Disk.
5. Type C:\Windows\inf, and then click OK.
6. On the list of available protocols, click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP),
and then click OK.
7. Restart the computer.
For more detailed information, please refer to the following article:
811259 How to determine and recover from Winsock2 corruption
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=811259
If the issue still persists please provide me with the following
information:
1. What happened before the issue occurred?
2. Please verify if the issue occurs in Safe Mode with networking
environment?
Safe Mode with networking
-------------------------------
1. Restart your computer and start pressing the F8 key on your keyboard. On
a computer that is configured for booting to multiple operating systems,
you can press the F8 key when you see the Boot Menu.
2. In "Windows Advanced Option Menu", use the arrow keys to select Safe
Mode with Networking, and then press ENTER.
3. If you are running other operating systems on the computer, click
Microsoft Windows on the list that is displayed and then press ENTER.
Hope the information helps.
Best Regards,
Jason Tan
