Re: A BT1800 ADSL router and a Netgear Switch nightmare!

Set the WINS addresses to 127.0.0.1 or to your WINS server.

Otherwise, it doesn't sound like a Windows problem.

: Hi, Hoping someone with sufficient knowledge can help us out.
:
: We have a BT1800 ADSL modem/router which has 4 ports.
: We have a Netgear 8-port Switch.
: We have 6 PC's in the office.
:
: Is it possible to plug the Switch into one of the ports of the ADSL
: modem/router and maintain a network Workgroup AND shared Internet access,
: because we cant, for the life of us, get it to work?
:
: Some background:
: Previously, we had static IP addresses set up for each of the 6 PC's in
the
: office (they are all XP SP2). They would communicate with each other
: through the Workgroup we created and we could look at, and access, files
: held in shared folders, on any PC, from any PC, without a problem.
:
: So we then plugged one of the spare ports from the switch into one of the
: ports of the ADSL modem/router, but we can't get Internet access (DNS
: error).
:
: So....we decided to change the settings on each PC to automatically obtain
: an IP address and DNS for each machine. Hey Presto...we can now all get
: Internet access, but the Workgroup becomes disabled (by disabled I mean
that
: some machines appear in the workgroup and some dont - also one of the
: machines that DOES appear doesn't let us access the Shared folders).
:
: Any advice?
:
: We are sure this is something to do with the DNS address we have specified
: in the TCP/IP settings on each machine, but we have double checked the DNS
: address provided by BT, and detailed in the settings of the ADSL
: modem/router, and we have it correct. So why isn't it connecting?
:
: Would really appreciate your input, thanks.
:
: Regards
: nath.
