You can have all computers in a workgroup split across 2 or more actual subnets,
or the computers can all be on the same subnet, but segmented. With wireless
laptops, if your laptop loses contact with the workgroup, depending upon how
long it's out of contact, either it or another computer could elect itself a
master browser. That gives you a workgroup with 2 master browsers, ie a
segmented workgroup.
Also, recent system changes can affect the ability of the various computers to
see the others.
