Run XP's Network Setup Wizard on both computers:

XP ICS - Starting the Network Setup Wizard
http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/xp_ics/networksetupwiz.htm

If the Wizard detects the router's shared Internet connection, tell it
to use that connection. Otherwise, tell it that the computer connects
to the Internet through a residential gateway.

If there's a firewall program (Norton, McAfee, PC-cillin, ZoneAlarm,
etc) on either computer, configure it to allow access by other
computers on the local area network. Note that some antivirus
programs, such as Norton Antivirus 2006, include firewall functions.
