The data for the file you wish to view needs to be downloaded anyway, and as far as i know you need to associate the file extension with the application 'exe' that you wish to view/open the file from filezilla.
Since you need to download it anyway you could always do that and then open it locally, then of course it will open with the default application. Not a serious problem i think. I hope you have seen the huge flexibility of ftp. Let me know if you want to know more about it.

Sorry to keep bugging you but here's another question.

When you want to want to use your client computer to work with a file on the
server computer, do you download the file to your client, or do you
edit/view the server file in place?

I see the View/Edit option on the right click menu in FileZilla but it seems
that to do this you have to type in a "Custom File Association" into the
FileZilla dialog box. This seems strange, I wonder why FZ doesn't just use
the default file associations on the client computer? Have you found an
easier way?

When I am using my laptop, I want to be have complete access to my
desktop ... to have read/write access to all files on my desktop
computer ... At the same time, I want other users on my home

So if I set up Filezilla client on laptop, and Filezilla server on
desktop, I can access any file on my desktop from my laptop?  Even
if the file on the desktop / server isn't "shared" by Win XP?
