Ray,

Your original problem report was about pinging the laptop, and getting
"Destination host unreachable". Now you state that the laptop sees the router
just fine. So what is your problem?

Try and isolate your problem. Is it between the laptop and the Internet? Or
between the laptop and the desktop?

The error "Destination host unreachable" typically is returned by a router,
saying the requested ip address doesn't exist. when you ping a device on your
subnet, and it doesn't exist (ie not returning pings), you should get "Request
timed out".

In order for us to solve the problem, we have to know what the problem is.
Spend a few minutes reading some of my articles.
