[wireless Q] sudden loss of wireless network

Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

I'm pretty green on wireless networking but have been using a WAP in
conjunction with a laptop to connect to a home lan from my laptop.
I run the laptop downstairs while the wap is upstairs where the main
lan is. That has worked for a mnth or more.

In the middle of a session today, I suddenly got an notification box
that the wireless connection was down.

This is a sony VIAO running winxp home with built in wireless adapter.
I had just been on line when this happened. Went upstairs and checked
the wap. It appears to be normal with the normal lights.

Connecting to wap by ehternet, it appears to be in working order and
shows a network setup.

Returning to the laptop, I tried `repair' the wireless network, no
soap. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling wireless adapter with
restart. no soap.

Clicking on the network screen It simply shows `not connected' and
when I click on view available networks it shows none available.

I'm not sure how to debug this further. I have only the one wireless
ready computer. And only the one wap.

Is there some test that will show if a wireless network is running
from the wap?

Or can anyone coach me as to further debugging?
.
