Automatic dialup after installing LAN

I have referred this problem to Symantec and have received a reference from them that does not solve the problem. Since the problem started after installing a LAN, perhaps someone here has solved it.
I have Norton Antivirus 2005 Live Update set to automatically get updates in my two Windows XP PCs. I have Internet Properties set to Never Dial A Connection. Live Update has in the past always waited until I was on line on the Internet before getting updates. However, I have installed an ethernet LAN between the two PCs with a router. The network was setup with no access to the Internet from the router.
Now, on the scheduled update times on both PCs, Symantec NetDetect automatically dials up my internet connection and leaves the connection established. If I catch it in time and disconnect, it does it again in five minutes. It does this until I let it connect for a minute or so and then it is satisfied until the next four hour scheduled time. I do not have any third party dial up connection software installed.
I suppose that NetDetct is seeing the LAN connection active and is doing its thing. Is there anyway to make Live Update act as it was before the LAN was established short of disabling Automatic Live Update. I feel safer having Live Update set for Automatic updates.
Has anyone here run into this problem after setting up a LAN?
