ICS with Playstation 2

OK, I am trying to hook my son's playstation 2 to the internet via my
wireless laptop. I have made the connection bridge, and when I test the
connection using the Playstation, it says connection successfull, however,
when I go to actually log on using the playstation, the light on the "local
area" connection plug comes on, then goes off and a message pops up: "cable
unplugged". I have windows XP, and I have a cross over cable attached to the
laptop into the playstation. I can still access the internet via the laptop
after the bridge is made, so I know it SHOUDL be working. Does anyone have
any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
