Win XP Pro can't find Internet, Win 2k can

I have a system that dual boots Win XP Pro (just installed), and Win 2k.

I knew something was wrong when the upon first initialization, Win XP Pro
asked me to activate my copy with the telephone activation system. After
reading over 56 digits and then typing 56 digits, my copy was activated.

However, no Internet Connection. I am running on a always-on cable modem
(broadband). I went through the connection wizard (twice), specifying a
cable connection (connect directly via LAN).

Still no Internet access. I can immediately restart and boot into Win 2k,
and the Internet connection is there, but Win XP Pro just won't see it.

Is there an easy fix for this?

Thanks.
