Can't set IP Address

I have three computers (all XP) in a home network with a router and cable.
On one computer I previously had ME and could not recover it after some
serious problems so I installed XP. After several tries, the install
completed succesfully and all works except I can no longer connect to the
Internet, where I could before.

The problem is that the system is holding on to the IP Address and DHCP
server address. The cable modem, router, cabling and all hardware work.

Parameters as of now:

IP Address: 169.254.107.101
IP subnet: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: not available
DHCP enabled: yes
DHCP server: 255.255.255.255
Autoconfig enabled: yes
Default gateway: 192.168.1.1

I have reviewed and implemented all of the suggestions in the discussion
threads for IP Address to no avail. I tried the LSP/WinSock repairs, no
luck. Ipconfig/renew times out because it cant contact the DHCP server. I
have tried forcing the IP address and server data but it keeps arbitrarily
changing.

Other sugestions?

Christopher
