Mal,
Then the only thing that I can suggest for your W98 machine is try one of the following.
With the Printer on, connected to an XP machine:
1. When you need to print something from the W98 machine, first copy/save the file to a folder that you share with the W98 & XP machine that you create. Open the folder, and then print from the XP machine.
2. Just install the W98 printer drivers on the W98 machine. And from the W98 machine:
a. Start button or Control Panel> Printers> Delete the HP printer entry there.
B. Select Add Printer> Browse to the Printer on the XP machine and Add it, make sure that the name of the Printer is less than 12 characters and has no spaces on it. That should be set as the share name on the XP PC.
Another thing you should check is any firewall settings that you have, especially on the XP PC that the printer is connected to. You need to make sure that "File & Printing Sharing" is enabled. If you are using a third party firewall on the W98 (or XP) machine, such as ZoneAlarm, Norton, McAfee, Sygate, etc... Make sure that file and printing sharing is enabled in those programs. Also if you are using a router on your network, check to see if there is a similar setting, that needs to be enabled.
That's all that I can think of doing.

Thanks, I could have saved a lot of frustration if I`d have seen that
before However I can use it as a network printer with my other XP computer.
