Transfering files on network stops after 5 seconds

Tech-Archive recommends: Speed Up your PC by fixing your registry

I have a problem transfering files from my laptop to my desktop.

I have sucessfully connected both computers in two ways. One with a router,
and one with a crossover cable. In both cases, my two computers sucessfully
find each other and display their shared folders. HOWEVER, whenever I try to
transfer files within these shared folders, the "copying.." window closes
after 5 seconds. I have sucessfully transfered files under 5 MB, but anything
larger than 5 MB does not transfer sucessfully.

I have enabled all permissions to edit the shared folders.

Why is this happening?
