Network slowdown between domain and local logon

Here's the machine(s) information:
NT 4.0 SP6a
XP SP2

Both are on a local switch, both are a member of the same domain. When I'm
logged onto both machines (same domain user account) I try to pull a file
from the NT machine to the XP machine while on the XP machine and the file
takes ~20 minutes (~3GB file).

Now if I log onto the machines locally, same local account, and try to do
the same thing, it takes ~5 minutes, same file.

Any ideas?
