Brian,
If you can ping the router (actually a modem/router combo from what I read) when
the problem is observed, and if the problem goes away when you restart the
router, I'd doubt strongly that the problem is related to Windows XP networking.
Have you involved Telefónica in the problem? You might want to try
comp.dcom.xdsl <http://groups-beta.google.com/group/comp.dcom.xdsl> for advice
too.
