The Internet Gateway is your D-Link router, and clicking the Internet
Gateway icon lets you monitor and control the router's operation. I
don't think that it's related to the problem.
Does the computer go into Suspend or Hibernation when it isn't used
for extended periods? Some network adapters don't wake up properly
from those modes. The latest driver program from the manufacturer
might help.
The computer might be turning off the network adapter to save power.
Look for a Power Management tab in the network card's properties in
Device Manager, and turn off any power saving option.
