There are two folder/file sharing provisions - Share permissions and NTFS
permissions. NTFS permissions are available with the NTFS file system and
Win XP Pro and not XP Home edition. NTFS permits or denies sharing of
individual folders and files and propagation from folders through
sub-folders. Win xp Home default setting is "simple file sharing" (which
can be toggled off/on). Share permissions with XP Home only permit
assignment to folders and not individual files a.g. if folder is given read,
change or full control permissions - it apply to all files in that folder.
Also with share permissions you cannot deny access to any user e.g. all
users can access share. (There is an exception - you can make a folder
"private' which cannot b e accessed. So - kind of a long winded essay - 1.
file and print sharing must be "activated' 2. Search "Help and Support" for
info on simple file sharing.
