Cannot show properties of a network connection

Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

I run XP Home.

On the "Network Connections" page, there are 3 network connections:
Local Area Connection - this connects to Internet via a cable modem
Local Area Connection 2 - this connects to my second computer
1394 Connection - nothing is connected to it at present

I select "Properties" on Local Area Connection and get this error "an
unexpected error occurred". If I select "Status" or "Repair", nothing
happens. This connection works fine and is the connection that enables me to
post this question.

Same problem for all 3 connections. Without the ability to show properties,
I do not have any means to view or change any network setting.

How do I fix this problems.

Thanks in advance.
