Sorry if I misled you. I definitely don’t want NWLink and haven’t used it
since posting my first thread. I only used it last time to contrast the
change in Browstat. Note that the Computer Browser runs with NWLink, but not
with TCP/IP.
I have uninstalled NWLink and am back to my original configuration. I tried
to follow your instructions meticulously, including the “HKLM…Lsa” entry for
“restrictanonymous REG_DWORD 0x00000000 (0)” as you suggested to Tootsje on
3/29.
The connection properties only contain:
Client for Microsoft Networks
File and Printer Sharing For Microsoft Networks
QoS Packet Scheduler (optional)
Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
“NetBIOS Over TCP/IP” was not enabled but now it is.
I restarted all computers in the order you directed and took another
Browstat reading. Same thing; “Browstat status” says:
“Status for domain DOMAIN2 on transport
\Device\NetBT_Tcpip_{5B10E503-8B17-4B28-8A98-B975C0B91878}
Browsing is NOT active on domain.
Master name cannot be determined from GetAdapterStatus.”
the Service says the Computer Browser started,
Event View | System reports:
“The browser has forced an election on network \Device\NetBT_
Tcpip_{5B10E503-8B17-4B28-8A98-B975C0B91878} because a master browser was
stopped.”
Wouldn’t it be simpler to just work with the one computer, keeping all
others off. Should the XP machine not show its own shares in My Network
Places, even if all by itself?
For some reason, the Computer Browser seems to keep stopping at the get-go.
