Can I create a user profile without my Network Places?

I have two XP machines, desktop & laptop, connected on my wireless home
network. The laptop has access to folders on the desktop, and to my
printers. All works with no problem.

But when I travel, or use the laptop outside my home, it slows to a CRAWL,
and even hangs, especially with disk activity (open/save/etc), because XP is
looking for the network folders/printers/directories on my desktop machine.

Can I create a second profile (also admin) that's fully functional but
somehow remove the Network Places, so when I log in with the new profile, XP
won't "look" for these files & folders?

Thanks very much for any help!
