I found two fixes. I re-ran the "Network Setup Wizard" on the laptop,
specifying that the laptop connects to the Internet through a
residential gateway (the laptop was connected directly to the Internet
when it was originally configured). The access to the Canon Preferences
and Properties are now also almost instant. The shared file access
delay was cured by disabling "Web Client Services" (found in Control
Panel==>Administrative Tools==>Services==>Web Client). This fix was
